Yoga Class Descriptions
amrita Yoga The amrita style of yoga is a form of vinyasa yoga with influences from Ayurveda, physical therapy, neuroscience, yoga philosophy and psychology, pranayama, and mindfulness. The amrita yoga style emphasizes the bio-mechanics of alignment, anatomy, kinesiology, and rehabilitative processes.
amrita yoga is taught in alignment with the rhythms of nature. Ayurveda teaches that our yoga practice should be in harmony with the changing of the seasons as well as the time of day (and your life cycle). We teach to support these natural cycles.
amrita Yoga Surya Level 1-2 These dynamic classes focus on practices that energize, cleanse, promote vitality, build stamina, strength, and resilience. We include sun salutations, vinyasa (vigorous at times), standing poses, arm balances, backbends, and inversions. An energizing and balanced practice, with a focus on flowing movement to help you discover a deeper connection to your body.Students are guided in seasonally-appropriate pranayama practices. Classes will include mindfulness tools and meditation.
amrita Yoga Surya Level 2-3 For intermediate to advanced students. Asana will include sun salutations, vinyasa, standing poses, independent inversions, arm balances, intermediate backbends, and seated poses that prepare students for meditation. Two years of consistent asana practice recommended.
amrita Yoga Chandra (morning) This class is great for students who are new to yoga, as well as students who want to reconnect with the basics. In class, we explore beginning poses, alignment principles, and building awareness. The class pace is more reflective. Mindfulness and breathing are woven throughout the practice. Self-study and self-reflection prompts are offered.
amrita Yoga Chandra (evening) This evening practice prepares your mind and body for rest through a blend of fluid, dynamic movement and restorative postures. We begin with an all-levels, slower-paced vinyasa flow class to move prana - life-force and breath - through your body; removing stagnation and increasing vitality. We wind down our practice with a blend of restorative postures, aimed at cultivating a greater sense of mind/body ease and relaxation.
Adaptive Yoga A chair-based practice for students needing to maintain strength and flexibility, develop breath capacity, and cultivate the relaxation response for soothing the systems of the body. Ideal for students with Parkinson’s disease or Multiple Sclerosis. Also suitable from those recovering from injury, surgery, or whiplash.
Gentle Yoga A gentle and supportive practice where students can move and be in safe community, learn inclusive asana variations, and invite relationship with their bodies. Props are highly encouraged, and everyone is invited to move at their own pace in a joyful, judgement-free space.
Queer+ Yoga Safe, accessible, and inclusive - Queer+ Yoga is a luminous invitation to radical self-acceptance and radiance. The practice of yoga allows us to move past that which only limits our true range of expression. Grounded in mindfulness and focused on alignment, this all-levels flow is for everyone. Yin Yoga This all-levels, relaxed floor practice focuses on moving prana - life-force and breath - through areas of our bodies where we tend to hold chronic tension. Passive postures that target shoulders, back, and hips are propped, supported, and held for 45 seconds to 3 minutes. These longer held poses encourage fascial release, increased circulation, and improve joint mobility. A strong emphasis on breath and pranayama practices, aid in reducing anxiety and stress of daily life.
Yoga Nidra The healing power of your subconscious mind awaits you. Join us for a deeply restorative hour- long guided relaxation, where you won't have to move at all. Yoga Nidra is a deeply restful state of being somewhere between sleeping and waking. In this class you will have the opportunity to access the inner wisdom of your own being through guided imagery and visualization. The proven health benefits of Yoga Nidra are numerous. It is highly effective in promoting rest, relaxation and stress relief.
Yoga & Strength Conditioning A combination of traditional yoga poses and conditioning exercise using exercise balls and thera-bands. Designed for specific conditioning of the stabilizing joints in the body to support rehabilitation from injury and cross-training for athletic pursuits.
Yoga Lab All Levels: Focused topics weaving together philosophy, structure, and methodology; asana, mindfulness and pranayama.
