Support the Continuation of Yoga Teacher Trainings in Prison
During Covid-19

DAYA Foundation is excited to announce that Coffee Creek Correctional Facility has welcomed DAYA to continue providing the Yoga Teacher Training program to residents who began their training in 2019 and were unfortunately not able to complete due to Covid-19.

One of DAYA Foundation's most impactful programs is our prison yoga teacher training program, working with incarcerated men and women. The program provides a 200-hour teacher training to inmates in which DAYA trained teachers to become yoga teachers on the inside, that is before Covid-19. These trainees then provided yoga and mindfulness classes for inmates even more vulnerable than themselves: inmates in the mental health, behavioral, and addiction treatment units within the prison.

Now we can continue this mission by crafting video content that will not only facilitate the continuation of training but also support continued education too all in this program as a whole. What a powerful gift to support one, who wishes to expand and support others, thus lifting the entire community up!

We are deeply grateful for your support and invite you to watch the video below for more information provided by our Founder, Sarahjoy Marsh.

Additional Information:

Over the past two decades the the population of women in prison has increased by 278%. Additionally, we know that 95% of the women currently incarcerated struggle with PTSD. We have a women’s prison crisis.

The rapidly growing population combined with limited funding means that these women struggle to access quality programs to support them as they heal from trauma, build character, and work to create a better life for themselves. But, DAYA Foundation is here to help.

DAYA offers a 200-hour yoga teacher training program for adults in custody who have realized the power and benefits of yoga and want to give back to their community. These women are then able to teach yoga to other women in custody and in turn build mindfulness, community, and resiliency. DAYA has been successfully running these teacher training programs in prisons in Oregon for over 3 years.

In September 2019, we expanded to Coffee Creek Correctional Facility a declared trauma-informed women’s prison in Wilsonville, Oregon. We launched our second training at the men's prison in Salem, Oregon in November.

We have seen tremendous benefits of the program for individuals as well as the overall community. The need for DAYA’s programming in women’s prison is great but we can’t do it without your help.

That is why we are asking you for support!

The value of a 200-hr Yoga Teacher Training costs $3500 on the "outside". At Coffee Creek the training is being valued at $2484 per student. (This includes the
highest level training program in the Pacific NW, their program books and training manuals, one to one mentorship through their program, and a certification from the Yoga Alliance.)
