MBSR is an eight-week stress reduction program teaching mindfulness meditation and awareness practices that have been shown to decrease the negative impacts of stress and improve well being for individuals with a wide range of conditions and concerns.
The benefits of MBSR and mindfulness training are far-reaching and have been supported by more than 30 years of published research. Developed at the University of Massachusetts Medical School, clinical and laboratory studies have shown that mindfulness training can change the brain, body and behavior in ways that promote better health and resilience. MBSR teaches practical, effective methods to help individuals meet the challenges and demands of modern living with more balance, ease and peace of mind each day.
Class Format: Classes meet weekly for eight, 2 ¼ hour sessions, and for one day-long retreat. Each session includes periods of guided practice, discussion, exercises to develop attention and awareness, and explorations of mindfulness in daily life. Classes take place in a comfortable, relaxed and supportive setting. Guided MP3 recordings and written materials are provided to support a strong foundation of practice between sessions.
