Born and raised on the island of Maui, Hawai’i, Kapu moved to Portland in 2008. After completing her Bachelor of Science degree in Social Work and Psychology and studying Studio Arts for a year, life led Kapu in an unexpected (but wonderful) direction. Kapu’s heart for creative healing was infinitely expanded with her practice of mindful movement. Yoga, in all its forms, brought about some amazing changes, and Kapu realized that this was the beautiful meeting point of therapeutics and creativity. And of course, she couldn’t resist wanting to share the goodness that she had discovered. In her education, Kapu had the immense privilege to study and train under the talented Shakti Sharon Hanson and Teri Poch in Anti-Gravity Yoga at the former Gravitas Center for Structural Movement and was certified in Fly Gym® Aerial Fitness. Kapu continued her training at Karma Yoga with Krista Basis, completing her 200 YTT.
In and out of class, Kapu seeks to create a safe place to foster each student’s journey in tending to the mind and body. She aims to craft a beautiful collaboration between her background in Human Development, Psychology and Art with her love for all that is Yoga—bringing a therapeutic lens to mind and movement. It’s a love for moving physically, emotionally, and spiritually and finding the crazy amazing stuff that exists there. More than anything, Kapu invites her students to join her in play and exploration, to allow themselves to find what their mind and body needs in each day’s practice.
